The Brunette Cinderella

A couple of weeks ago back in January, I was on Instagram, just browsing around. I have two accounts: one for personal use and the other where I post my photographs. That day, I was on my photography account, just lurking at other photography accounts and the vibrancy of the posts left me amazed.

A while later, I get a message from a girl I used to go to high school with and happens to live in the same neighborhood as me. In that message, she asked me if I did quinceañera pictures. I was a bit in shock when she contacted me. I haven't heard from her since we graduated nearly four years ago. I wouldn't label myself as a social butterfly, but I had a lot of acquaintances back in high school. She was one of them.

I told Andrea that I was available to take pictures for her relative. Since we live three houses away from each other, we carpooled to the Japanese Tea Gardens in San Antonio. I've lived in the San Antonio area for nearly 12 years already and I've heard people talk about the garden but I have never gotten a chance to visit.

It was a Sunday when I went and boy, it was crowded. I carried my Nikon camera bag and my tripod and Andrea and I waited for the quinceañera. Later, I saw a girl in a sparkly, sky blue dress approaching. Her up do hairstyle and her dress she bought at Debbie's Bridal fitted my description of a Latina Cinderella.

Like i mentioned before that there was a lot of families at the Japanese Tea Gardens, many were staring at as we were walking around to find a good spot to shoot. What amused me the most was that there was plenty of children telling their parents with joy, "Look Mom, it's Cinderella!" The gleam in their eyes and that spark of innocence was a heartwarming experience.

Our photo shoot went better than I expected. The quinceañera was pretty shy at first but later overcame it. Her mother was impressed with the photographs and asked if I was available for the day of her party. I guess I better get my gear ready for early April then.
